Texas Trash Snack Mix

When it comes to party nibbles, a nice homemade snack mix is an easy and simple way to let your guests know how much you care. Chips and dips are great, but there is something so humble -yet satisfying- about a Chex mix type of snack. For events and gatherings puppy chow and Chex mix are great snacks, but sometimes you might want to change it up a bit. This recipe takes the standard Chex mix and turns it into something a bit kickier with the addition of Tabasco sauce and other spices.

Extra flavor comes from the addition of chili powder and cayenne pepper, among many other spice ingredients. Good old Worcestershire sauce is still in this one, giving a familiar flavor profile as the foundation for this just-spicy-enough snack mix.

Butter acts as a flavorful coating for all the nuts and cereal and pretzel pieces and helps the pieces to get all crunchy in the oven. While baking, don’t forget to take the pan out and stir the mix every 15 minutes so that all the components get evenly heated and crisped.

The mix also gets an infusion of flavor and texture from the addition of mixed nuts. All in all, the recipe comes together to make a really unique flavor profile that will have your family and your guests reaching for more. This recipe makes enough for about 8-10 people, so for a big soiree you might consider doubling the recipe. It’s so tasty that you might end up running out otherwise!
