8 Game-Changing Baking Tips We Wish We Knew Sooner

We love spending time in our kitchen, whether it’s whipping up a batch of cookies or getting dinner ready for the family. It’s safe to say we have a few tips and tricks up our sleeves when it comes to preparing and presenting food, but we’re always learning new things. Go ahead and check out some of our newest baking tips in this list below!

Easist Way To Juice A Lemon

Juicing a lemon (or any citrus fruit, for that matter) can be quite the hassle. Sure, you could just but lemon juice, but the fresh stuff is so much better! Instead of risking a hand cramp trying to get enough juice, simply pop the lemon into the microwave for about 10 seconds to get the juices flowing, so to speak.

Cooking Spray Hack

We all know the wonders of cooking spray when it comes to sheet pans and casserole dishes. But what about measuring cups? That’s right! If you’re working with a particularly sticky ingredient like honey or peanut butter, go ahead and spray the cup down with cooking spray before doing your measuring. Brilliant!

Perfectly Cut Brownies

We love all things dessert, which means we have a stack of brownie and dessert bar recipes ready at any given time. However, cutting these tasty treats can sometimes end up in a crumbly, gooey mess. Not anymore! Simply run your knife under hot water for a few seconds before cutting brownies or bars to get those nice, clean, professional lines.

Easily Remove Eggshells

Eggshells in the cookie dough? We’ve been there. Instead of driving yourself crazy trying to pick it out, simply wet your finger and then stick it near the eggshell. Miraculously, the little piece of shell will gravitate towards your finger. For science reasons, of course.

Soften Brown Sugar

If you’ve been baking for any amount of time, then you know that brown sugar tends to get clumpy and hard if it’s not stored properly. Is there any way to salvage rock-hard brown sugar once the damage is done? Absolutely! Put the hardened sugar into an airtight container with an apple slice. In a few hours, your sugar will be totally soft and usable again!

Save Scorched Cookies

So your cookies turned out a little on the burnt side. It seems wasteful to throw a whole pan of cookies out, and yet no one wants burnt cookies. Sometimes the damage is too much to salvage, but if your cookies are only blackened on the bottom, you can simply scrape that part off with a grater. Once you’re done scraping off the bottom part, stick the cookies in an airtight container with a couple of slices of bread. This will make them moist again.

Mess-Free Mixing

We’ve made our fair share of messes in the kitchen. Some of the most frustrating cleanups come from batter deciding to take flight while we’re using our electric hand mixer! It takes forever to find all of the little drops and wipe them off. Instead of dealing with all of that, simply cut two holes in a paper plate and thread your beaters through the holes before securing them into the mixer. The paper plate acts as a shield to prevent messes!

Quickly Ripen Bananas For Baking

When making banana bread and other banana-flavored goodies, you need to use ripe bananas. But what if your bananas aren’t quite there yet? Easy! Ripen them yourself, of course. Put the bananas in a foil or parchment-lined baking sheet and bake at 300 until they are brown and mushy.
